What is Zen Rock?

Pioneered by the singer-songwriter Wit, Zen Rock is a music genre that fuses rock music with Haiku or Senryu poetry. The music can follow the normal rock format( Verse, Chorus, Bridge, etc.), but the lyrics follow the format of Haiku or Senryu poetry.

What is a Haiku and Senryu?

A Haiku is an unrhymed short poem that uses the least amount of words to convey the image, essence, and or humor of an experience pertaining to nature. It is written in three lines of seventeen syllables. The three lines are divided into units of five, seven, five syllables.

A Senryu is a verse form that also follows the same form of five, seven, five syllables, but instead of nature, it addresses the human condition.

How to Write Lyrics for Zen Rock.

• Write in three lines a verse form of seventeen syllables.
• Divide the three lines into units of five, seven, five syllables.
• Capture a moment is time. Observe the potential of it, capturing the special essence.
• Experience each moment through the five senses as if it were the first time ever. 
• Find the sublime. 
• For added dimension use juxtaposition 
• Notice the inherent humor in nature. 
• A Senryu is a verse form that also follows the same form of five, seven, five syllables, but instead of nature, it addresses the human condition. 
• The words do not need to rhyme.
